Inspired by her trip to New York in 2008, sophomore Taylor Edelhart founded the MoveAbout Theatre to bring movable, outdoor theatre to teens in her hometown of San Francisco, a city that embraces the nontraditional.
After her successful first show, Alice in Wonderland, in 2009, Edelhart directed two more productions, The Miser and Running Shorts, before her graduation from Lowell High School. Taylor studied theatre at NYU and was a finalist for the prestigious Beach Blanket Babylon scholarship in 2011.
In 2012, Natalie Girshman and Margot Pierluissi directed the company's first Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night's Dream in Fort Mason park. The company used Fort Mason the following year for The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Elisa Vidales and Lauren Taylor. The duo's 2014 show, Twelfth Night, used Ocean Beach and the adjacent windmill to originate a new take on an old world.
