About Us

Mission
The mission of MoveAbout Theatre is to present free, moveable theatre for youth and to enrich the community of San Francisco through our interactive performances.

Due to recent circumstances with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, MoveAbout will be going virtual for the 2021 Season!

Who we are
MoveAbout Theatre is a Bay-Area based teen theatre company, featuring student directors, actors, designers, and technicians. Each spring, we put on a production, providing free and interactive entertainment for the city. Auditions for the April show are held the previous December.

Founded in 2008, the company tailors the work to the location in which the show will be performed. The company is currently in its 13th season!

MoveAbout is non-profit enterprise and relies on donations and grant money to fund our productions.

How we "move about"
MoveAbout uses the various spaces within a larger location to set the scenes of the show. The actors lead the audience as the story travels around the area.

HISTORY

Picture
Twelfth Night, 2014
Inspired by their trip to New York in 2008, sophomore Freddy Edelhart founded the MoveAbout Theatre to bring movable, outdoor theatre to teens in their hometown of San Francisco, a city that embraces the nontraditional.

After their successful first show, Alice in Wonderland, in 2009, Edelhart directed two more productions, The Miser and Running Shorts, before their graduation from Lowell High School. Freddy studied theatre at NYU and was a finalist for the prestigious Beach Blanket Babylon scholarship in 2011.
