This spring, join MoveAbout Theatre in its sixth season for an afternoon of merriment, music, and marriage. San Francisco is the backdrop for Illyria, the kingdom ruled by the ostentatious Duke Orsino, who wishes to woo the fair Olivia. Here, the shipwrecked Viola becomes tangled in a web of increasingly perplexing relationships. In classic Shakespearean tradition, she disguises herself as a man and joins Orsino in his quest to win Olivia's heart. Complications arise as Viola finds herself falling for Orsino, while Olivia, believing Viola to be a boy, sets her own sights on Viola.
Meanwhile, Olivia's boisterous Uncle Toby, his friend Andrew, and the mischievous maid Maria seek revenge on Olivia's assistant, Malvolio. To add to the struggle, Viola's twin brother Sebastian, who was generally assumed to be dead, enters the scene. All this is observed by Feste the jester, the wisest fool of them all. The performance is staged entirely outdoors, and the audience will be walking from to scene to scene as the play unfolds, so comfortable footwear is advised. Seating: Bring blankets (no chairs, please!) to sit on. Location: Meet us at the Murphy Windmill in Golden Gate Park. Our first scene is by the Great Highway/Lincoln Way at Ocean Beach (see map) at staircase 28, then shifts to the nearby Murphy Windmill. |
